One Last Look
One Last Look
Then she stood alone
in the station
with a far away look
on her face
“all aboard”
were the last words
she heard
then his Greyhound
backed away
As he watched her
through the front window
memories turned in his head
from Saskatoon
through Riviere de Loup
he remembered
something she'd said
“Give me one last look
at the summer
one more look
in your eyes
oh the winter is long
but this feeling's so strong
give me one last look
at those times”
By the fire
she sips on a coffee
while a cold wind
whistles outside
and she longs
for his touch
and misses so much
his head on her shoulder
at night
And she thinks of the time
and the distance
and the ache in his voice
on the phone
and she wonders
what's left
beyond the regret
of always being alone
“Give me one last look
at the summer
one more look
in your eyes
oh the winter is long
but this feeling's so strong
give me one last look
at those times”
Then they stand again
in the station
in a long and tender embrace
and the coming and going
of people unknowing
around them
seems so out of place
And he says
“my darling
I've missed you”
wiping the tears
she's shed
"but through everything
the winter and spring
I held on
to something you said"
“Give me one last look
at the summer
one more look
in your eyes
oh the winter is long
but this feeling's so strong
give me one last look
at those times”
